Historically quilts have been used to raise funds for those most vulnerable in our communities. Today, trans rights are under attack in the UK & USA amidst rapidly changing and devastating legal landscapes. Trans people are struggling to access basic needs safely from public restrooms to life-saving healthcare. Join our quilt raffle to support two grassroots organisations run by trans people for trans people.
To advocate for trans rights is to protect those most marginalised while safeguarding bodily autonomy for everyone. Trans people make our world safer and more beautiful.

Please give generously in relationship to your finances. Minimum donation £15/$20. Everyone has the same chance to win the quilt. Donate to either or both charities.

Why now? Changing legal context in the UK & USA…
“In April the UK Supreme Court ruled on the definition of “sex” in the Equality Act. In so doing, they overturned 15 years of legal understanding. The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has now submitted an updated statutory Code of Practice…This new Code impacts the fundamental rights of both trans and non-trans people in the UK. The ruling and initial EHRC guidance have already had devastating impacts on the day-to-day lives of people in the UK. Not just trans individuals; but non-binary, intersex, gender non-conforming, and disabled people as well.” - Trans+ Solidarity Alliance
“If reports of the EHRC guidance are correct, it is not compatible with trans people’s human rights. It would usher in a system of segregation, policed by threats of legal action by those with money to burn.” - Nadia Wittome, MP

“A group of independent human rights experts today expressed concern about the implications of the recent UK Supreme Court judgment interpreting the definition of “woman”…While the ruling was limited to a question of statutory interpretation, the experts warned that it risks entrenching legal uncertainty and undermining the rights of transgender persons in all aspects of life…The experts recalled that the UK has previously been found in violation of the European Convention on Human Rights for failing to provide adequate legal recognition for trans individuals.” - The United Nations, 2025

The new order withdraws a range of executive orders issued by former President Joe Biden, including those allowing transgender people to serve in the military, advancing the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youth, and interpreting federal sex discrimination protections in domains like education, housing, and immigration to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.” - Human Rights Watch

Our raffle quilt adapts an old 19th century patchwork quilt pattern called a New York Beauty or a Crown of Thorns. Here the pattern evokes the warmth of a loving sun.
Made with linen and cotton fabric, some of which is plant dyed, the quilt is hand quilted in a baptist fan style. This is also an old quilter’s technique. The backing is a soft vintage cotton and the internal batting is a cotton and bamboo blend. One of a kind, Made in Scotland by PLQ.
